How exciting that I actually got to do one of the parkruns I had planned before I left home. Singapore parkrun scheduled for the 22nd, the day of my planned visit, was cancelled due to the corona virus, what a disappointment for me! KL on the 29th wasn't cancelled so I rocked up at 07:20 for the 07:30 start and realised it was a good thing I'd been running early as they were half way through the first timers' briefing.
Boy was it HOT! Still can't believe I finished it and in a semi respectable time of 36.53, 1st in my age group (OK, I accept I was the only one in my age group!), and I was really pleased I stuck with it.
Managed to get to the KLCC Gardens, something I'd been promising I'd try to do, and walked all the way there to book my ticket at Eurolines to travel to Penang on Sunday. It was a bit late by then to find out how close all the attractions were, so much easier than taking the trains with their very long connection tunnels. And finding the free bus round KL would have been more useful had it not been 12 hours before my departure. Also managed a photo of the Petronas Towers, the closest I'd got to them, my choice not theirs.
Today I travelled to Penang, easy coach journey but we were dropped a long way from Georgetown which I hadn't realised until I started looking around for street names and realising I didn't recognise any of them.
Penang has some wonderful colonial building, erected at the time of the British governance of the region. Apart from that, the kindest thing I can say about Penang is it's, um, er, pretty grotty! But I did have a long walk round this evening trying to be generous about it but all I can say is that I won't be extending my stay here and will leave on Wednesday morning as planned.
Photos to follow as always: me at Taman Pudu Ulu parkrun, a couple from KLCC Gardens, then finally some highlighting the difference between top of the range and bottom of the range here in Penang, plus what a superb Fire Station, couldn't resist taking a photo of it. Incidentally the first photo is of my delicious Nasi Gorenge eaten at the Islamic Art Museum KL yesterday, had said that it was attached to the last blog but it wasn't so here it is now.
