My 'treat to myself' accommodation has some outstanding views and it's amazing me that I don't feel at all queasy looking out of the windows even though I'm up on the 27th floor!
The day did not start well which seems to be a recurring theme this trip. I have no idea where I am, I have no maps, no mobile data, no clue as to how I'm going to get where I'm going, and I'm not even sure where that is! Google to the rescue. Photos taken of google maps and off I go.
Quite a bit later, obviously, I arrive at what I think is the station I'm after. No of course it's not, it's another one I've never heard of. In my defence the KL transport system is not easy to master. Anyway a less than helpful man does a bit of pointing and grunting and I set off in the direction he sort of indicates. At the next station, which still isn't the one I'm looking for, a more helpful person tries to explain that I can connect to the one I'm after if I buy 2 tickets, so off I trot to the machine. This tells me I can get to my destination with 1. Ah yes explains person, I should take the purple express line 1 stop then change to the green monorail for 3 stops. Eureka it worked!
As I exit the station I ask the clerk for directions to the Malaysian Tourist Board/office located in a very famous colonial building close to the station. Tourist office? Tourist office? No tourist office here. All said with a non commital shrug and an air of total indifference.
Welcome to Malaysia!
Anyway I find the place, no thanks to him and get myself armed with maps and transport layouts. My goodness it's all in tiny writing and the trains and junctions are so jumbled and confusing. Never mind, I'll manage. The 'cafeteria' is serving lunch and it looks yummy so I pick and pay, big plateful, RM9, so about £2. Struggle to find cutlery, eating with fingers is the norm, but fork and spoon located and delicious lunch eaten.
With the help of my brochures I (eventually) locate the station I'm after and go to buy a Tourist Card. Clerk very involved with his mobile and takes some persuading to stop that to serve me. But he does at last and armed with my pass I set off exploring. But how weird that of the 9 lines on the system the pass only allows you to use 5 and it doesn't include the buses, doesn't make sense.
Anyway, I got my own back by spending the rest of the day going up and down all the permitted lines working out what I do and don't want to see. I'm not going to let them get me down!
A melange of photos to follow, sorry I can't insert them where they should go in the text, but if 3 different Apple stores can't work it out then what chance have I got??
