It's very very hot so time to escape the city for a few hours

Trying to find the right exit at the MRT stations is a bit like putting together a piece of IKEA furniture. The first time you do it it's a complete wind up that you think you will never master but at least you know that it will be easy peasy the next time. BUT there never is a next time as you only need one of those bits of furniture. And so it is as a tourist, you know you won't get lost and frustrated the next time, but there isn't going to be a next time as you're only going to see each particular sight once!!

I had 2 ambitions to achieve in my time in Singapore, one was to run the East Coast parkrun, and the second was to revisit the Chinese and Japanese Gardens, each of which I remember with delight. I stop for a quick bite to eat and choose something from the menu that looks inoffensive. When it arrives I can only describe it as one of those 'what the heck is this' meals so most of it got left behind.

I ventured as close as I could to the building works and did sneak a couple of photos, I remember these pagodas so well.

There was little point hanging around so I decided to move on to the Canopy Tree Walk, about 10 stations away.

This meant that I had plenty of time to have a good final stroll around, this time heading east as I'd covered all the other directions during my time here. I walked through the gardens on my way to the ferry terminal, having one last look at the Eagle mascot, then headed up the hill towards the eastern shore. I passed a pretty row of coloured houses (are you allowed to call them that any more?) and carried on for about another 1.5 km until I was stopped by a security guard at what amounted to a road block. It turned out that this was the entrance to the Westin Hotel and only hotel guests are allowed to pass! So this is a proper road, the shore is to my right, I have no other way of progressing along this road other than here, is that right? Yes, I'm told, private road, no passing, not allowed. This was repeated several times until it was obvious th...
